Out of Bounds
It’s where you realize the lightness of being…
Today Mercury shifts from Aries into Taurus — and boy is your astrologer feeling it! It’s taking me a year and a day to compose this newsletter.
Mercury in Aries tends to be “I need to know NOW + I need to say this NOW + I need you to know this NOW”. You get the point.
Now in Taurus, Mercury is more apt to stop to smell the roses while painstakingly composing his thoughts so that WHEN/IF he SAYS something he knows that it is genuinely what he means and delivers it in the way most likely to get the response he wants — which will suit his new landlord Venus just fine.
Venus rules Taurus, and now with Mercury here, they are entering into what astrologers call a “mutual exchange”. Basically, Venus is currently in Mercury’s “town house”, Gemini, and Mercury now lollygagging about Venus’ country house, Taurus, until May 10th. However, they can’t “see” each other. So, while they’ll take care of the other’s digs, exchanging information (like where the remote controls are kept) isn’t as free flowing as if they were in signs that make an aspect.
IRL you may experience this as areas in your life ruled by Venus (relationships, attraction, pleasure, value) and Mercury (communication, getting around, commerce) simultaneously become intertwined BUT there are minor inconveniences and adjustments that need to be made in order to get them fully aligned. Examples: A new relationship starts but you can’t meet IRL until lockdown is lifted. You finally get a venture lined up, but you’re in a holding pattern to get the final financing in place. You found a pic of your perfect haircut but don’t know when you’ll see your stylist next.
BUT, as frustrating as that might sound, this is where the quote from St. Exupéry’s The Little Prince comes into play:
It’s the time you lost for your rose that makes her important.
In a Pre-COVID19 world, the RESULT was what everyone supposedly really gave a damn about NOT the PROCESS.
Self improvement was only a stepping stone to attract “the one” on the way to marriage. Hitting production and budgetary targets superseded making environmentally and ethically sound sourcing choices when manufacturing the latest trendy gadget or beauty product. Treating workers as numbers on a spreadsheet rather than with respect and humanity was deemed a necessary evil to protect the bottom line and meet shareholder expectations…The list goes on.
Such a mindset has been a major contributor in landing us in the predicament we’re in right now for so many reasons — so many steps missed (or dismissed as a hassle), so many corners cut, so much looking the other way — just to get to where we think we wanted or should go. When you’re racing to live in the future, you bypass the only part of time your consciousness actually lives in — the present…and living in the present often feels slow and requires an enormous amount of concentration, trust, and the release of the illusion of control over the future. It feels vulnerable, BUT, when you really dig into it, that’s where your strength lies.
Under our current starscape, we’re being asked to slow down to focus on the only thing we have control of — the moment-to-moment — in order to realize the lightness of being — of being part of a continuum, a melody in the symphony of the natural world and its rhythms. Once we do this, we cease the futility of pushing the river and accept that we are the water and life is the current.
With that said,
here are some key transits to watch this week:
TUESDAY, APRIL 28 | Mercury in Taurus squares Saturn in Aquarius.
You want to really mull things over and take the time to figure out which options will truly bring you stability BUT pressing obligations or authority figures want you to stop being so selfish and do the right thing for the group. Compromise? It’s hard between two signs as stubborn and convinced of their rightness; but maybe get that Saturn figure or issue to specify how the big picture creates community or what the plan is to harmonize the elements of the subject/decision at hand and see if that makes one of your options resonate more than the others.
THURSDAY, APRIL 30 | Mercury meets up with Uranus in Taurus.
This might find your brain mouth filter malfunctioning as a manifestation of your Subconscious knowing that you need to shake up how you communicate in order to get your needs AND wants met. Uranus in Taurus (and it’s here for another 6 years or so folks) is shaking things up to bring more authenticity to what you anchor your life to (paradoxical — I know). With Merc on his lap like a willing marionette, he’s spoiling to unleash some truth bolts. If you keep that in mind, you’ll know whether to count to 10 before saying anything or shooting from the hip and asking questions later.
SUNDAY, MAY 3 | Venus in Gemini starts a bar fight with Neptune in Pisces.
Oh boy. Chatty, faerie Venus gives the mysterious stranger with the big sad eyes and who smells like the beach before the storm a piece of her mind and then he hands her a drink. It all could end with worshiping the porcelain god and waking up to texts that make no sense…Maybe attend a sound bath and read some light but engaging fiction instead?
This week all boils down to:
You’ll want to do a lot of chatting, screwing, and eating and thinking about chatting, screwing, and eating. BUT you might feel guilty about it and hence worry about your career and where you fit in in the big picture, how are you going to meet your adulting obligations whilst getting out of bullshit commitments that no longer reflect you, what you want to do, or the talents you really bring to the table. Thoughts might want to pour out of you just to shake shit up. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, just make sure you don’t drink too much or do any drugs before chatting, screwing, or trying to bake something you’ve never attempted to before.
